Explosion Destroys Home In Mississauga; 1 Person Dead, Multiple Others Injured”

A number of other houses on the Mississauga street were also damaged, and police are investigating the cause.

Peel Regional Police say the extent of the injuries isn't known.

One person is dead following an explosion in a residential area in Mississauga, Ont. on Tuesday.

There is also limited access to 700 homes in the area, as services are looking at "residual gas" left behind, reports CBC News.

One house was destroyed by the blast and neighbouring homes show heavy damage, with debris spread over a wide area.

An explosion in the Canadian city of Toronto has destroyed several homes, with footage from the scene showing the blast sending building contents across large areas of the neighbourhood.

A cause of the explosion, which occurred on Hickory Drive shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, remains unknown at this point and investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshal's office are expected to remain on scene sifting through debris into the weekend.

He said investigators want to capture all the evidence "safely and systematically" and that it is likely that they would remain on scene until the weekend.
