France opens manslaughter inquiry into EgyptAir crash”

Charles de Gaulle Airport at 23:09 p.m. Wednesday and was scheduled to arrive at 2:55 Cairo.

EgyptAir flight MS804 spiralled down into the Mediterranean early on May 19 on its way from Paris to Cairo, killing all 66 people on board.

The announcement came a day after French authorities said they had opened a manslaughter inquiry into the crash, saying there was no evidence so far to connect it to "terrorism".

The plane's Flight Data Recorder was repaired in laboratories belonging to France's BEA aircraft accident investigation agency late on Monday and the data files transferred to Egypt on Tuesday, Egyptian investigators said.

Amid speculation ranging from mechanical failure to terrorism, investigators are looking to extract any bytes of the data to find the critical evidence needed to reveal what caused the crash.

According to a statement, investigators also said the plane's cockpit voice recorder would also be worked on in the short term.

All 66 passengers and crew - the majority of them Egyptian - died in the crash, which investigators now hope to be able to explain. The cause of the plane's crash as it traveled from Paris to Cairo on May 17 is yet to be given. "Work to fix the second black box will commence tomorrow". The agency has started the process of cleaning and repairing the boxes for shipment back to Egypt for analysis.

One of two flight recorders found in Mediterranean repaired as French prosecutors open manslaughter probe into crash. French aviation experts say the plane sent automated messages indicating smoke in the cabin and trouble with a flight control unit shortly before disappearing from radar.

The Egyptian investigators were unable to download information from the recorders.
