Shooting captured on Facebook Live claims life of Chicago toddler

Portions of the incident were seen over Facebook Live as Lavontay White Jr, his 26-year-old uncle and pregnant mother were in the vehicle. "I just hope that our legislative partners are sick of it".

A Facebook Live video has captured the moment that a two-year-old boy was shot dead in a auto alongside his aunt's boyfriend. "He was shot several times and died as a result of his injuries", Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said. He did not have the names of the people who were shot and did not immediately know their relationship to each other.

Tuesday's video captured what appears to be the sheer randomness of violence in a city that has become the poster child for such violence. Family say she was about four months pregnant. "I have a bullet in my stomach", the woman is heard saying.

No arrests have been made but investigators have "very optimistic leads", according to police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

"Yes, you can", a woman said.

The tragic shooting occurred in the midst of a bloody surge of violence in the nation's third largest city, which has raised the ire of President [Donald] Trump. The city recorded more than 760 murders and 4,300 shooting victims a year ago. The 12 year old's condition was unknown.

Both Lavontay and his aunt's boyfriend were shot in the head, later being pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

The toddler is the third child to be shot in Chicago in the last week. The shooting comes just a few days after two young girls were shot in the head.

Just minutes earlier, the woman, who is reportedly four months pregnant, was seen chewing gum, smiling and singing into her cellphone as she sat in the passenger seat of vehicle driven by her 26-year-old boyfriend and a 2-year-old boy, Levontay White Jr., in the backseat.

A man was in critical condition following an earlier shooting in the Gresham neighborhood.

News images from the crime scene showed a maroon Oldsmobile Alero stopped in the alley where police said the victims were ambushed. Both repeated their calls to state lawmakers to strengthen penalties for repeat offenders.
