Branden Albert cut by Dolphins

Branden Albert cut by Dolphins”

The moves save about $20 million in 2017 cap space.

One potential option at guard may be tackle Branden Albert, who will be released by the Dolphins, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

The Herald reports the Dolphins are also releasing defensive tackle Earl Mitchell and cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu.

Williams just signed a two-year, $17 million deal with the Dolphins last year and I'm sure they didn't expect things to end this way.

With Ereck Flowers expected to make a position change, Albert is certainly worth a look if the New York Giants are unable to land Andrew Whitworth on the open market.

The veteran left tackle has become the latest example of a player who is told that he's out and then, once the team realizes there could be a trade market for him, the process stops. He left for Miami in March of 2014 on a five-year, $47 million contract with the Dolphins.

Williams, 32, signed with the Dolphins last offseason after he was released by the Buffalo Bills. Albert never played 16 games in three seasons in Miami, including missing four starts last season.

He didn't play a full season in any of his three seasons with the Dolphins because of injuries, including a dislocated wrist last season that he had surgically repaired in November.

Williams recorded 97.5 sacks during his 11-year National Football League career.

Albert started 12 games in 2016.

Tunsil spent most of his rookie season at guard, but he was always projected to move to left tackle eventually.
