Apple exploring the possibilities of charging devices over WiFi

These delays have led to speculation that Apple might not be able to launch the iPhone 8 until October or November of this year.

All in all, everybody is eagerly waiting for the new iPhone from Apple.

With the recent announcement by Apple that wireless charging will become a standard feature in the next iPhone, we are finally at the threshold of mainstream adoption. There is a handsome amount of time until we witness Apple dropping the curtains off the next iPhone but the rumour world is doing its rounds on regular basis.

As anticipation grows for the release of the iPhone 8, a new bombshell suggests that Apple fans could end up being very disappointed.

Some of these dummy models include a rear-mounted Touch ID fingerprint sensor, others include one embedded beneath the display.

The upgraded versions of the current two iPhone models will most probably be upstaged by a new top-of-the-line handset with an overhauled look that might be named iPhone 8. LG Display is also supplying screens for the Apple Watch and a significant affect may occur if the reports extend to be true. According to 9To5Mac, the new leaked design for the iPhone 8 shows a vertical dual-lensed camera system with a centered flash.

For example, the report says that Samsung (NASDAQOTH: SSNLF), reportedly the sole supplier of the OLED displays on the iPhone 8, "is facing challenges in delivering what Apple wants", with the publication noting that its sources "are unclear as to what exactly the issues are".

The new iPhone will reportedly have a glass-backed design, making wireless charging possible. No rear Touch ID button is included in the schematic.

The US Patent & Trademark Office, meanwhile, published on Thursday an Apple patent application titled Wireless Charging and Communications Systems With Dual-Frequency Patch Antennas that describes antenna technology that would support simultaneous wireless charging and Wi-Fi support on a device. What's more, older iPhone models, including the iPhone 6s, sold better in the first quarter than Apple's legacy handsets have performed in years prior. Our guess: Apple is trying to keep its unreleased phone more discreet-looking, as it seems unlikely that the company would forgo its own branding.

Rumors regarding the placement of the Touch ID on the iPhone 8 have been rampant.
