Wilson takes to the stand in defamation case

Wilson takes to the stand in defamation case”

The defamation trial for "Australian success story" and Hollywood movie star Rebel Wilson will hear from a number of witnesses including her mother and siblings, her Australian and USA agents, and an old school friend from her childhood in Sydney.

In her lawsuit, which was filed against titles Woman's Day, The Australian Women's Weekly, New Weekly and OK!, the actress claimed the articles damaged her reputation and she lost out on movie roles because of the allegations.

Rebel Wilson told the court about her childhood.

At the opening of the trial in the Supreme Court of Victoria on Monday, Wilson's lawyer, Matthew Collins, said his client was "cut to the core" when she learned 1.5 million people had read an article online that said she had lied about her name, age and upbringing in Australia.

She hit out at the articles at the centre of the lawsuit, saying they killed her career.

Hollywood movie star Rebel Wilson has rapped a hallucinated Oscar acceptance speech in court.

"These articles were a deliberate malicious take-down of me", the actress testified.

"It's kind of like they're getting the knife and just shoving it further into me", she said.

Lynbrook School District's $84.48 million 2017-18 budget approved by voters
The budget does not anticipate a property tax increase this year. "The challenge this year was the timing", Acuff said. In 2016-17 the budget totaled $117.72 million and was supported by the collection of $76.62 million in local taxes.

The jury was told Wilson's real name was Melanie Elizabeth Bownds, but her mother had always wanted to name her Rebel, after a six-year-old who had sung at her parents' wedding.

Wilson is seeking undisclosed damages with reports it could tally into the several hundreds of thousands if she is successful. Bauer denies the articles were defamatory. To which Justice John Dixon quipped from the bench "that's called a CUB".

The trial continues, with Rebel expected to take to the witness stand later this week.

She was so sick she felt like she'd contracted a "voodoo disease" and was disconnected from her body, the court heard. Wilson tweeted about the journalist, stating "here she is, total scum", but got the woman's identity wrong.

Wilson told the jury she considered herself a bogan, before being asked to describe the meaning of the word by her barrister.

He said she was sacked from two films, Trolls and Kung Fu Panda 3, and unable to secure future work.

THE judge needn't have anxious about the potential bias of at least one of the people cast into the jury pool for Rebel Wilson's defamation case.
