The barometer had lost 205.72 points in the previous session after investors took profit amid volatile global cues in the aftermath of a terror attack in the UK.

The market on Friday witnessed a surge in its trade with the Sensex and Nifty hitting an all time high of 30,862.63 and 9,534.75 respectively.

FMCG, realty, IT, capital goods, consumer durables, banking, teck, oil & gas, auto, PSU and metal sectors were leading the rally.

Brokers said investors were busy creating new positions following the beginning of the June futures and options (F&O) series that lifted the key indices - Sensex and Nifty - to a new highs.

Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs), after remaining sellers for the past few sessions, bought shares worth a net Rs 81.88 crore in yesterday's trade, as per provisional data from the stock exchanges.

Globally, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.54 per cent, Japan's Nikkei gained 0.53 per cent while Shanghai Composite index edged higher by 0.08 per cent in early trade on Thursday.

Pharma index was the worst performer on both the BSE andNSE after weak quarterly results of Sun Pharma's overseas arm Taro Pharmaceuticals - seen as representative of the vast Indian generics business in the U.S. - spooked investors.
