ICE officials in Southern California arrested almost 200 persons Thursday, most of whom had prior criminal convictions.

During the five-day "expanded enforcement operation" that concluded on Wednesday, ICE agents arrested 188 individuals in Southern California.

A five-day operation conducted by immigration officials this week resulted in nearly 200 arrests in the Los Angeles area, with two in Glendale, according to authorities.

In the greater L.A. area, only about 10 percent of the total arrests in the region this year during that period, compared to 26 percent nationally, were of those who did not have a criminal conviction, according to the data.

More than two dozen of those arrested also had been convicted of domestic violence and driving under the influence. "The individuals that we do find out about, again, are booked into a law enforcement facility, fingerprints taken", said David Marin, an ICE field office director.

The ACLU said in its filing that in recent weeks there have been a new series of hunger strikes at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers in Georgia, Oregon, and Washington. Others were from Armenia, Cambodia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Philippines, Russia, Thailand, Vietnam and Yugoslavia.

Instead, ICE agents use targeting methods and know who they want to arrest ahead of time.

At least eight individuals may could face up to 20 years behind bars for alleged re-entry to the country after deportation.

The raids are seen as US President Donald Trump's attempt to deliver on his campaign pledge of deporting as many as three million undocumented immigrants. Those individuals will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and arrested by ICE, when appropriate.
