Phoenix police: Comicon suspect threatened police, performer”

Phoenix Comicon urges convention-goers to prepare for an extended wait to enter the show, and has issued information for fans seeking refunds as a result of the policy changes.

"At this time, there is no evidence to cause investigators to believe this is anything more than an isolated incident", Phoenix police said in a press release.

"This screening includes three dedicated access points, no longer allowing costume props within our convention or the Convention Center, and other methods as determined in conjunction with the Convention Center and Phoenix Police Department", the statement read. "He was immediately removed from the venue and taken to police headquarters for questioning".

As we've previously reported, organizers have also increased security measures, including bag searches, at the convention center. Multiple officers were necessary to subdue the armed man.

Phoenix police declined to comment on security arrangements.

Prop weapons carried into the four-day event are supposed to be inspected by security staff, but police say the man's weapons weren't checked. Should convention and event attendees in the United States be concerned that they might be next?

Police said the man had several handguns, a shotgun, knives, and ammunition.

The man had been taking and posting photos of police officers on social media, Phoenix police spokeswoman Sgt. Mercedes Fortune told AZ Central.
