Iran's president criticizes US after Trump's sharp words”

Well before the USA president's visit to Saudi Arabia, it was evident that Washington and Riyadh would use the trip to step up their rhetoric against Iran, which is, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, fresh from real elections.

Visiting Saudi Arabia on Sunday, the controversial American leader singled out Iran as a key source of funding and support for militant groups in the Middle East, sending an unhelpful and unwanted message to Tehran the day after Rouhani won a second presidential term. He said America is prepared to stand with them but the region can not wait for American power to crush the enemy.

"The Iranian nation has made a decision to be powerful". Trump, meanwhile, has threatened to tear up the deal.

"From Lebanon to Iraq to Yemen, Iran funds, arms, and trains terrorists, militias, and other extremist groups that spread destruction and chaos across the region", Trump said. His supporters look to Rouhani - instrumental in pushing the US-Iran nuclear deal, ending sanctions and allowing foreign investment - to further Iran's engagement with the world and prevent worldwide isolation.

His comments followed fierce critism from the USA president during visits to Saudi Arabia and Israel. He also called the Saudi summit a "show-off" convention that "will not have any political and practical values".

On Monday Trump arrived in Israel, where he again singled out Iran.

At the Tehran press conference, Rouhani also defended Iran's ballistic missile program, something heavily criticized by the Trump administration.

Rouhani said at a news conference on Monday that stability could not be achieved in the Middle East without Tehran's help.

Voskanyan recalled that during a visit to Armenia in 2016 December, Rouhani said that Iran regards Armenia as the most important country of a project created to link the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea.

Trump landed in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, the first stop of his first foreign tour since becoming president. His comments were echoed by Saudi King Salman, who declared: "The Iranian regime has been the spearhead of global terrorism".

Rouhani won a landslide victory in the polls, garnering 23,549,616 votes out of a total of 41,22,131.

"Our missiles are for our defence and for peace, they are not offensive".

Many experts are skeptical that a president can effect a huge change in the country as he is subordinate to the supreme leader, who is chosen by a clerical panel and has veto power over all policies and control over the security forces. "Know that while there is a technical need to conduct missile tests, we will do so and we will ask the permission of no one", Rouhani told reporters in Tehran, following renewed criticism from US President Donald Trump.
