Dufner has another 65 and opens big lead at Memorial

Dufner has another 65 and opens big lead at Memorial”

Daniel Summerhays managed to walk a relatively straight and narrow path at the Memorial, and it took him to an unlikely position going into the final round in Dublin, Ohio. "I'll take it. Sixty-five to start the tournament is a good place to be".

Dufner had a six-shot lead over Fowler when he finished, and then had to wait to see what kind of margin he would have going into the weekend.

Jason Dufner entered moving day with a comfortable five-shot lead after he set the Memorial Tournament's 36-hole scoring record with back-to-back 65s, but Muirfield Village wasn't almost as kind to him Saturday.

Summerhays dropped only one shot and rarely was out of position on his way to a four-under-par 68. More than his solid round was Dufner's collapse.

Dufner dominated the opening two days in OH and set a new 36-hole scoring record with a pair of 65s, dropping only one shot in the process, but he endured a horror-show on the slick greens on Saturday and slumped to a five-over 77.

Five shots back to start the day, Summerhays made up that deficit in five holes, when his playing partner, the 36-hole leader Jason Dufner, imploded nearly immediately.

Dustin Johnson and Jason Day want to make sure they get to play for rounds.

"I felt like I scored the way I played today", Spieth said.

At least he was still in the game, along with plenty of company. He's 8 under and three shots off the lead after going birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie to start his back nine.

"I'm OK", Dufner said.

Four pars were followed by bogey, birdie, bogey on holes 14 through 16, and he closed with pars on 17 and 18 for 68. Spieth and Justin Thomas (71) were tied for fourth, eight shots behind.

After three quarters: Cavaliers 109, Celtics 74
It's an indication that despite still being in a dire 3-1 hole, the resolve inside Boston's locker room remains strong. There were stretches of games where the Cavs were mired in losing streaks as on and off court issues factored in.

Those with work to do but still not far behind include Rickie Fowler (eight-under), Jamie Lovemark (eight-under), and Jordan Spieth (seven-under).

The three-time European Tour victor had five birdies and a bogey at Barseback.

Muirfield Village member Jason Day (71) is 2 over after 36 holes, skirting clear of the cut line by two shots. "Any time you have a chance on the PGA Tour is a thrill". Another dry day, and anything can happen.

Lingmerth, victor of the Jack Nicklaus-hosted tournament in Dublin, Ohio, in 2015, hasn't posted a top-10 finish on the US PGA Tour this year.

Victorian rookie pro Brett Coletta, playing in his second Tour event, fired a 69 and the 20-year-old shares 20th at three under.

Lydia Ko is skipping the event and will lose her No. 1 ranking to No. 2 Ariya Jutanugarn, also taking the week off, or No. 3 So Yeon Ryu. It landed past the pin and spun back into the hole for an eagle. Kim won the Reignwood LPGA Classic late a year ago in China for her fourth tour title.

Moriya Jutanugarn and Lee each shot 70. He has missed the cut three times. He also had a bogey and a double-bogey.

Scott was the best of the Australians on day two but it is Victoria's Marc Leishman who is best placed overall after adding his second consecutive 70 to be 4-under and remain T13.

Until this year. Summerhays came into this week 157th in the FedExCup standings, his best result a T16 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Nordqvist won the Founders Cup in Phoenix in March for her seventh LPGA Tour title, a homecoming victory for the former Arizona State star.
