Garry Monk: Middlesbrough tick all the boxes for me”

Monk resigned from his position at Elland Road last month, a day after Andrea Radrizzani bought control of the club from Massimo Cellino.

But change is afoot in Yorkshire and Leeds United still have the hard job of appointing a manager who is capable of leading them up the Championship and back into the Premier League once again.

Monk told a press conference: "I became a manager out of a job and obviously I'm ambitious and want to be working and find that right challenge - that is something I have always wanted".

"I had talks with the new people there but there were things that didn't tick the boxes for me and so I knew I needed a new challenge".

"This club ticks all the right boxes for me".

The Whites enjoyed a strong season under Garry Monk, finishing seventh in the Championship in his first campaign in charge - and that proved to be his only season in charge.

"We will smash the league next year", he said in an interview with BBC Tees.
