Hardik Patel, the face of Patidar agitation in Gujarat, was arrested in Neemuch on Tuesday when he tried to enter violence-hit Mandsaur in a bid to meet families of farmers who were killed in firing during an agitation.

He said the Patidar community in Gujarat and Rajasthan stands in support of the Madhya Pradesh farmers.

Speaking to news agency PTI, City Superintendent of Police Abhishek Diwan said Patel was arrested to prevent commission of cognizable offences.

Lashing out on authorities after his arrest, Patel said, "I am not a terrorist". I am an Indian citizen and have the right to go anywhere in the country, " he said.

The police who have so far registered 46 FIRs in the Mandsaur farmers' protest case, all of them are against the protesting farmers for committing violence and none against the policemen who opened fire, reports a private channel. "Beyond that as the central government, I have nothing to say", Jaitley told reporters when asked if the Centre will help states on the issue of farm loan waivers.

In Mandsaur, curfew was imposed after the five farmers were killed in two incidents of police firing during the protest on June 6.

Similarly, facing an agitation Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had promised to look into the demand for waiving agricultural loans.

Chouhan sat on an indefinite fast on Saturday, appealing for peace to farmers demanding loan waivers and remunerative prices for their produce. Before ending the fast, he had assured people that those involved in the deaths of farmers in Mandsaur would be punished severely.
