Friend says Trump is considering 'terminating' Mueller”

He told a Senate panel Tuesday that he, and not Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who had the authority to terminate Mueller. Ruddy added he believes firing Mueller would be a major misstep for the administration.

Trump supporters such as Newt Gingrich and others have seemed to be greasing the wheel for the eventual ouster of Mueller.

Ruddy also claimed that Mueller interviewed with Trump as POTUS was interviewing possible Federal Bureau of Investigation director candidates, just a few days before being named special counsel by deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. "And I'm not going to speculate on what he will or will not do", Sekulow said. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who was put in charge of the Russian Federation probe after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself, made the announcement May 18.

New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat, opened her line of questioning, in the hearing that was supposed to focus on the Justice Department budget, by asking if Rosenstein had seen any evidence of good cause to fire Mueller.

After to Comey's dismissal, Trump reportedly expressed that he would have fired Comey regardless of Sessions' and Rosenstein's recommendation, also referencing his disapprobation of the DOJ investigation into alleged ties between his presidential campaign and Russian Federation, according to VICE News. As Rosenstein went on to say, "I've been a prosecutor for 27 years, we don't want people talking publicly about the subjects of ongoing investigations". In what became known as the Saturday Night Massacre, President Richard Nixon ordered then-Attorney General Elliot Richardson to fire Cox.

According to Ruddy, there was a meeting between Trump and Mueller just days before he was appointed as the independent counsel to the investigation.

His reaction comes amid reports that USA president Donald Trump is considering sacking the man appointed to lead the Russian Federation investigation.

President Donald Trump speaks on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, Monday, June 12, 2017, during a ceremony honoring the 2016 NCAA Football National Champions Clemson University Tigers.

"The letter that I signed represented my views that had been formulated for some time", said Sessions during his testimony. Look who he is hiring. Democrats and millions of Americans won't buy it, but Mueller's reputation would be hard to question and that could put an end to it.

Surely the president knows that firing the special counsel without an absolutely valid, ironclad reason would blow up in his face. "I personally think it would be a significant mistake, even though I don't think there is a justification [for a special counsel]".

The talk about dismissing Mueller appeared to be coming from Trump allies - including some close to the White House strategist Steve Bannon - who are increasingly frustrated over the prospect of a long inquiry. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations. But the president is going to seek the advice of his counsel and inside the government as well as outside. Rather than calling the President to tell him that, Ruddy took to a medium where he knew Trump would listen: TV. But Sekulow added that he "can't imagine the issue is going to arise".

Ruddy told ABC News that he stands by his comments that the president is considering asking Rosenstein to terminate Mueller.

Regarding Ruddy's comments, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said: "Mr. Ruddy does not speak for the president and the president never said that".
