'Ambassador Rodman' returns from 'really good' trip to North Korea

Otto Warmbier, 22, has been in a coma since March 2016, shortly after he was sentenced to 15 years of hard labour in North Korea, according to his family.

Warmbier's neurological condition best described "as a state of unresponsive wakefulness, " Neurologist Daniel Kanter told a news conference in Warmbier's home city of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Otto Warmbier, a University of Virginia student, was medically evacuated from North Korea and flown to Cincinnati late Tuesday.

The University of Virginia student was later sentenced to 15 years of prison and hard labor for allegedly stealing a political propaganda poster from his Pyongyang hotel in January 2016.

Doctors said his injuries are consistent with respiratory arrest cutting off oxygen to the brain, but they do not know what caused it.

"He announced that Warmbier "[showed] no sign of understanding language, responding to verbal commands or [being aware of] his surroundings".

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday father Fred Warmber said he felt "relief that Otto is now home in arms of those who love him and anger that he was so brutally treated for so long". State Department confirmed the US special envoy to North Korea met with the other three USA citizens being held captive in North Korea. Warmbier was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for allegedly trying to steal a banner with a political slogan from his hotel in Pyongyang, North Korea.

"I've got nothing from my experiences with him that would suggest he would do something like that", Gratton said.

The American college student returned Tuesday to the United States after 17 months in detention.

Otto Warmbier was returned to the United states and his home state of OH on Tuesday.

Busy Aisha Tyler says goodbye to 'The Talk' after 6 years
Tyler recently became a series regular of Criminal Minds , a CBS hit drama, where she plays the role of a forensic psychologist. She's been on CBS' "The Talk " for six years and will leave at the end of this season in July, Tyler said.

"We relied on this false premise that they would treat Otto fairly and let him go", Warmbier said. Kanter said his team had received copies of brain MRI images from North Korean medical personnel, the earliest of which were dated April 2016.

Gratton has also told of how Warmbier showed no signs of illness before being led away, concluding he didn't deserve such treatment by Kim Jong-un's brutal regiem.

The doctors said they are not aware of anything from his previous medical history, prior to his time in North Korea, that might cause cardiopulmonary arrest. It was the last time he was seen publicly before this week.

President Donald Trump on Friday said he was "glad" the United States was able to rescue Otto Warmbier from North Korean custody.

It is not clear how Mr. Warmbier's release has been secured, although his rapidly declining health may have been an incentive for North Korea to discharge him.

"Those toughest restrictions on travel and tourism right now only really apply to Cuba", says former Treasury Department official Elizabeth Rosenberg.

The U.S., South Korea and others often accuse North Korea of using foreign detainees to wrest diplomatic concessions.

While there, Yun also met with the three other Americans being held, who include two men who taught at a Pyongyang university funded by overseas Christian groups, and a Korean-American pastor who was accused of espionage for the South. Three other Americans remain detained in North Korea.

Warmbier is taken to North Korea's top court in Pyongyang North Korea.
