Meet The DOJ Official Who Could Take Over The Trump Investigation

As for who the president is referring to, the most likely option is Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel.

The Post reported that the obstruction of justice investigation of the president began days after James Comey was sacked as the FBI Director on May 9.

Mr Trump tweeted: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

He appeared to be referring to Rod Rosenstein, deputy attorney general who is now leading the probe.

That tweet came a day after The Washington Post reported that Mueller had expanded his probe to look into whether Trump himself tried to obstruct justice by allegedly pressing top intelligence officials to intervene in ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence has now hired legal counsel to represent him in the Russian Federation probe and there are media reports that the investigation has expanded to include the business dealings of White House adviser and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner.

In a two-part tweet posted before 7 a.m., Trump wrote: "The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt".

The investigation, the president added is being led by "very bad and conflicted people".

Lakers draft rumors: 3 reasons to go with Dennis Smith Jr
For better and for worse, the Lakers are mindful of not overreacting to individual workouts considering the various restrictions. While most draft analysts still consider Lonzo the favorite for the No. 2 pick, it's not as clear-cut as we once thought.

Regardless of the chaos that could ensue in the leadership of the Justice Department, Mueller's investigation appears insulated, and much of the work of the department done by United States attorneys across the country will continue, Cramer said. "I can go around them", Trump said.

The Twitter attacks came as vice president Mike Pence hired a personal lawyer to represent him in the intensifying investigation.

Trump ignored shouted questions from reporters about the ongoing Russian Federation controversy as he departed the White House Friday for Miami.

Trump responded to reports he is personally being investigated for obstruction of justice with a characteristic scorched earth defence: claiming mistreatment of historic proportions and calling into question the probity of his accusers.

Until Trump's Friday-morning Twitter burst, only the Washington Post's sources had indicated that Trump was being investigated for possible obstruction of justice. Trump said in a tweet.

After the firestorm caused by Comey's firing, Rosenstein appointed Mueller, Comey's predecessor as FBI director, to take over the DOJ Russia investigation. He testified that he leaked information about the notes through a friend to the Times to increase pressure for the appointment of a special prosecutor after he concluded Trump's administration "defamed" him and the Federal Bureau of Investigation after his May 9 firing.

A White House official said Friday's tweetstorm is a sign Trump is "taking matters into his own hands" - the latest example of how he thinks he is the best person to deliver his message.

The top lawyer for the Trump transition team has ordered the organization's staff to preserve all records and other materials related to the widening investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian representatives.
