Authorities: Texas mom left 2 kids in hot vehicle as punishment”

After searching the house for about 30 to 40 minutes, Randolph eventually went outside the residence and discovered they had somehow managed to lock themselves inside her auto.

Randolph initially told cops she found two-year-old Juliet and 16-month-old Cavanaugh passed out in the locked auto outside their home near Lake Weatherford, so she smashed the window to get them out. She told the Parker County police she had wanted to teach her daughter a lesson for disobeying her.

Randolph said she went back into the house, smoked marijuana and took a nap for two or three hours, the complaint states.

Investigators said she has changed her story multiple times, including once where she broke a vehicle window to make the incident look like an accident.

She said that about 12:15 p.m. that day, she had found the children playing inside the vehicle and ordered her daughter out of the auto, using profanity.

A Texas mother faces first-degree felony charges in the deaths of her 2-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son after police say she locked them inside a sweltering auto last month to teach them a lesson. When she awoke, she found the children unresponsive inside the auto and broke the window to make it look like an accident, the statement said.

Randolph was arrested after several subsequent interviews and an extensive investigation conducted by sheriff's investigators with the assistance of the Texas Rangers, the release said.

Less than a month after the tragedy, Randolph has been arrested after her original explanation for her children's deaths unraveled.

Ms. Randolph was booked into the Parker County Jail on Friday. Temperatures that day reached into the mid-90s.

She then told officers that she had to break a window and rescue the children, then called 911, authorities said.
