'Transformers: The Last Knight' Review: An Incoherent Mess Of A Movie

"Transformers: The Last Knight, " topped the Wednesday box-office chart with $15.7 million. While this was enough to come out on top, it doesn't bode well for the aging space robot-based series of films. All previous "Transformers" sequels opened with $97 million-plus. Most can overlook cheesy dialogue, unrealistic CGI filled action, and the typical over-the-top content that makes up these mind numbing sci-fi movies. For bloated summer tentpoles, the Transformers films continue to have more visual and sonic imagination than most superhero films, even if the result isn't anything I'd call lovely.

Transformers: The Last Knight reunites Michael Bay with franchise veterans Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro, John Goodman and Peter Cullen, while new additions to the cast include Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School), Jerrod Carmichael (Bad Neighbours), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy), Santiago Cabrera (Merlin), Liam Garrigan (Once Upon a Time), Mitch Pileggi (The X-Files) and Anthony Hopkins (Thor: The Dark World). The previous film, 2014's "Age of Extinction," made $858.6 million of its $1.1 billion global haul overseas. The Last Knight ends with Quintessa being destroyed by Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, her body flung off the spaceship the Decepticons and Autobots have been fighting on. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. While not bringing in the same opening numbers as predecessors Cars ($60 million by its second week) and Cars 2 ($66 million by its second week), its week 2 has only seen a 53.1 percent decrease in domestic earnings, which is much better than Cars 2's 60.3 percent decline. (Man of Steel earned $377 million domestic overall but sat at $271 million at this point in its run.) Cars 3 also took in just under $25.2 million, while new limited releases The Beguiled and The Big Sick impressed, earning high per-screen averages ahead of their wider releases in the coming weeks.

"Transformers: The Last Knight's" performance is a tough break for the summer box office's bottom line domestically. "Wonder Woman" was directed by Patty Jenkins, working from a screenplay written by Allan Heinberg. The computer-animated comedy film reported an early worldwide total of 141.3 million to date.

Schiff says firing Mueller would echo Watergate
The regulations that govern the special counsel were issued by the Department of Justice and could be rescinded by DOJ. That includes the man who hired the special counsel and would have to do the firing.

Fifth place went to the Tupac Shakur biopic "All Eyez On Me" with $5.85 million. The latter fell a staggering 77.9% in its second weekend. Some estimates have the film slightly lower, just below $25 million. Final domestic figures will be released Monday. Sure, a movie about sentient robotic organisms hiding out on our planet doesn't bring to mind great drama or oration, but good plot and character development always helps. The low previously belonged to the 2007 original, which earned $70.5 million in its first Friday-Sunday weekend.
