Murray withdraws from Wimbledon warm-up”

Murray was set to play two matches at this week's Hurlingham Classic before he made a decision to skip the exhibition event due to a sore hip.

Andy Murray has pulled out of an exhibition match at the Hurlingham Club with a sore hip in what is another blip in his preparations for the defence of his Wimbledon title.

Just a day before Friday's practice, on Thursday, coach Ivan Lendl sounded optimistic.

Murray's misery at exiting before the quarter-final stage of the Australian Open, the first grand slam of the season, was compounded by him getting shingles on his return from Melbourne.

"Sadly I won't be ready to play at The Hurlingham tomorrow", said the world number one. "If the weather is good I am sure we will practice".

Murray is facing hard times for the last one year and after an early exit from the French Open, the British player is searching to regain his form.

It is still thought unlikely that the injury will sideline Murray from Wimbledon, which starts on Monday, and the 30-year-old is set to feature in the second scheduled match against an as yet unidentified opponent on Friday.

"But the world's watching because it's the defending champion opening on Centre Court".

Aches and pains are nothing new for Murray, or for any professional tennis player, but the timing is inopportune.

Federer, now favourite with Murray only third in the betting, warned: "Andy needs to feel he could play for 14 days, or seven matches". He's been unlucky this year with a few illnesses and an elbow injury.
