US Shoots Down Missile in Intercept Test Over Pacific

US Shoots Down Missile in Intercept Test Over Pacific”

On Tuesday, the United States Missile Defense Agency announced that the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system had successfully passed its first-ever interception test of an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) target.

The U.S.'s Missile Defense Agency, which operates the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) missile shield, told Business Insider in May that in the event of a real incoming threat, they would launch several interceptors to increase the chances of knocking out the missile.

"This test further demonstrates the capabilities of the THAAD weapon system and its ability to intercept and destroy ballistic missile threats", Greaves said.

THAAD has successfully completed 14 interception attempts since 2005, and the latest test was its first interception of an IRBM, the release added.

This year alone, North Korea has launched seventeen missiles, including new short-, medium-, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles, an ICBM, and surface-to-air missiles and coastal defense cruise missiles, most of which were displayed in a military parade in April. It does not target intercontinental ballistic missiles. The system successfully shot down a test projectile over the U.S. state. Upcoming missile defense activities also include a planned test of an Arrow 3 interceptor, expected to verify the systems' full capacity, which could not be tested in the confines of Israel's coastal test range on the Mediterranean Sea.

Lockheed Martin is the primary defense contractor for the THAAD program.

French far-right leader charged with alleged EU funds misuse
Her lawyer Rodolphe Bosselut confirmed on Friday afternoon, with several National front politicians also under investigation. Le Pen has consistently denied the allegations against herself, saying that they were the work of her political opponents.

This system is created to shoot down ballistic missiles with short, medium or intermediate-range but not the intercontinental missiles of the type tested by Pyonggang last week and which experts say could reach Alaska.

The THAAD system has made recent headlines following Washington's decision to deploy it to South Korea - a move which Washington and Seoul say is aimed at defending against any potential North Korean missiles.

It is also possible Russian Federation legitimately thinks the missile was far short of an ICBM because their early warning system "stinks" as Lewis put it on Twitter.

The United States deployed two THAAD launchers in South Korea in early May and four more are pending deployment following an environmental assessment by the current South Korean government.

The Kodiak site is not new to missile defense tests but has not been used since 2014.
