Doris Payne, Dubbed 'Granny Gem Thief' Arrested Again For Shoplifting At Walmart”

When she was taken to jail in Chamblee, GA, police noticed her wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet.

Her career as an global bling bandit spans six decades.

Payne's latest arrest came after a Walmart employee notified an off-duty police officer working security at the store that Payne visited the pharmacy, electronics and grocery departments. She had attempted to steal a necklace nearly worth $2,000 from Von Maur department store at the mall, CBS News reported.

She had been on probation at the time of her arrest for jewelry theft at another Atlanta mall in 2014. "At my office, we're treating this like her life is on the line", he said.

"It causes me to forget", she told NBC. "This doesn't fit into anything she has done before and we are going to look at the video and see what's going on, see if this is maybe forgetfulness", Findling said.

She had recently pleaded guilty of stealing a $2,000 diamond necklace from a department store in a suburb of Atlanta. She was then taken to the Chamblee jail and later released on bail, only to be rearrested next day over violating probation conditions. In an interview for a special called "The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne" she bragged about her skills as a jewel thief.

Once at the register, Payne paid for items in her cart and tried to exit the store with loot concealed in her purse and shopping bag, according to FOX 5 News.

In 2008, Payne told the Los Angeles Times she stole her first diamond when she was in her 20s and got used to stealing.

"Aside from her activities she is a wonderful person with a lot of fun stories", the attorney said.

From there, she worked her way up from bargain jewelry to some of the most expensive stores across the globe, hitting targets as far afield as Britain, France, Italy, Monaco and even Japan.
