YouTube gains new in-app messaging feature for chat and video sharing”

The new feature makes it easy for users to share videos with their friends and fellow users, however, YouTube faces a challenge from big players that have already established themselves quite well in the domain of instant messaging.

The new feature - called Share on YouTube- is a basic chat feature and rolls out globally for mobile today. That ends now. YouTube has made a decision to bake messaging directly within the app, allowing users to share videos with friends without leaving the app.

YouTube explains that you can invite friends to join a conversation you're having on YouTube, and to hold general chats within the app. Users can start a chat/group amongst their contacts on YouTube and share videos easily.

The latest update to YouTube for Android and iOS adds a new sharing platform to ease sharing of videos with peers.

Users can start one-on-one or group chats, in which they can watch shared videos without leaving the thread. The company had been testing the new feature since 2016.

Ever since Google acquired YouTube back in November 2006 (following its original soft launch in 2005), the video-hosting site includes community features such as comments and likes to enable one-on-one communication between uploaders and their subscribers. The introduction of the new feature will not make a difference in sharing of links to other apps. Now the user can share the video directly through share option and discussions regarding it.

The main goal of the feature is to make YouTube feel more social by encouraging users to keep their conversations about videos within the app, as opposed to some other service (like Twitter). The first, a dollar sign in a green circle, means that you're earning money via "the broadest set of advertisers" as well as on YouTube Red.

Spotted an interesting video on YouTube and want to share it with friends? A 9 to 5 Google reporter noticed he had the ability to control playback speed within YouTube's Android app, though none of his coworkers perceived any change. So, what we are looking at here is a full-fledged messaging service within the app.

But according to the Mayor's office, all four videos reported by the Met have at least double, and in one case over 20 times this many views, with one displaying advertisements from the Great British Sewing Bee and watchmaker Christopher Ward.
