EFL to look into earlier closing of summer transfer window”

Premier League clubs are planning to hold a vote on a new transfer deadline day that would cut short the summer window by around three weeks, according to reports.

The new transfer window period would certainly have a big impact on the nature of the deals being done towards the end of the window and should allow for more of a focus on the football itself once the season starts.

The Telegraph and The Times have reported that Premier League teams are set to decide on the proposal at a shareholders' meeting on September 7, with the vast majority of clubs expected to vote in favour of the move.

"There's frustration here and I'm sure Southampton are frustrated, too", Swansea manager Paul Clement said after his side had drawn 0-0 with Southampton on Saturday.

"It would have helped us this year (if the window shut when the season began)", Klopp said.

Kellyanne Conway: Hopelessly stuck in the past
"Go tell the families of those four innocent Americans who were slaughtered in Benghazi that that lie mattered", said Ms Conway. But with each passing day, it's increasingly clear this investigation is neither made up nor built on fake news.

It would make clearer business sense for clubs across the world to have their transfer dealings concluded before competition begins, yet football and business sense rarely go hand in hand.

The January transfer window, however, would not be affected by the proposed changes. "If Liverpool were faced with a similar situation to the one they now have with Philippe Coutinho after the domestic window had closed, they would not be able to reinvest the transfer funds and bring in reinforcements", it says. The notion of excluding deals with top-flight clubs before they have finalised their own squads seems unhelpful but that is an issue that has already been anticipated and some form of accommodation could be made.

They will always back themselves to keep their best players, but it would still lead to a nervous few weeks between the English deadline and the European deadline - unless the rest of Europe falls into line.

It seems unlikely, but the question will be raised at some point during the final hours of the window because it is impossible to believe that all clubs will agree to suspend transfer business in order to avoid distracting worldwide teams.
