Los Angeles County Unemployment Rate Rises to 4.5 Percent”

Alaska's unemployment rate has been the highest in the nation lately, and the picture didn't get brighter in July.

For the second straight month, the unemployment rate went up in San Bernardino County, according to data released on August 18 by the California Employment Development Department. Gains were partially offset by losses in the construction (-700) and the transportation, trade and utilities (-600) sectors.

Most of July's increase in Colorado jobs was in federal, state and local government, CDLE said; there was only a small rise in private-sector jobs.

The total unemployment rate for the state for July was 5.4, up 0.5 percent in a month.

US Open gives Maria Sharapova a chance - now can she use it?
Martina Hingis , Juan Martin del Potro and Lleyton Hewitt were granted wild cards coming off injury impacted seasons. She will be hoping to match her singles title at the US Open in 2006 and improve upon her haul of five Major titles.

Arkansas added 32,900 nonfarm jobs from July previous year to last month. "This summer, the youth labor force grew by 2.4 million, or 11.6 percent, to a total of 23.1 million in July". The new rate also remained well below the US rate of 4.3 percent in July. The labor force participation rate over the year has increased 1.5 percent compared to July 2016.

Month over month, Tulare County farms added 100 jobs and nonfarm industries added 2,300 jobs. Manufacturing fell by 14,100 jobs (down 1.1 percent), and mining and logging fell by 1,400 jobs (down 5.7 percent).

The estimates from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show MA lost 200 jobs in July. Gains occurred in both wholesale (+1,000) and retail (+700) trade.

Now, an increase in leisure and hospitality is normal for this time of year, of course. Friday's jobs report noted 16,000 jobs in the professional and business services category, which includes the region's government contractors, lawyers and technology workers - sectors that typically command higher salaries. Hospitality jobs, for instance, generally don't pay as well, and are generally less secure, than professional work.
