Trump invokes fake pig's blood myth hours after Barcelona attack”

After he struggled to condemn a white supremacist terrorist attack in the United States, reluctantly condemned it, and then pivoted back to the idea that not every participant in a neo-Nazi rally that ended with a woman's murder was necessarily bad, a deadly terrorist attack in Barcelona offered President Trump the more comfortable terrain of talking about Islamic terrorism.

Less than an hour later, Trump posted another tweet, alleging that "radical Islamic terror" was behind the incident, while referencing John "Black Jack" Pershing, an Army general who led the USA military and governed Moro province in the Philippines in the early 1900s.

On the campaign trail, Mr Trump once told the same story, but that time he said there was no Islamist insurgency for 25 years, rather than 35. But during the presidential campaign, he told a widely discredited story that Pershing had halted Muslim attacks in the Philippines by shooting rebels with bullets dipped in pigs' blood.

President Donald Trump is being criticized once again for lauding the alleged tactics of Gen. John Pershing in dealing with Islamic extremists in the Philippines at the turn of the last century.

According to the fact checking website Politifact, the late military historian Frank Vandiver said in 2003, referring to Pershing: "I never found any indication that it was true in extensive research on his Moro experiences". The debunked story is about Pershing's forces capturing and killing Muslim prisoners with bullets dipped in pigs' blood to deter future terror attacks.

According to legend, Pershing told the 50th Muslim to take one of those bullets back to his people as a warning of what would happen should they persist.

Trump's tweet came hours after 13 people were killed in Barcelona after a van crashed into a crowd in the Spanish city. Authorities there have labeled the incident a terrorist attack and taken a suspect into custody. CNN did report that "ISIS' media wing, Amaq, issued a statement that said the attackers are "soldiers of the Islamic State, ' although ISIS has not explicitly claimed responsibility for the attack".

Even richer than when she was just a normal teen millionaire living in a Calabasas mansion, that is. But just because its Kylie's big day doesn't mean she's the only one that gets bestowed with gifts.

"And for 25 years, there was not a problem".

For a man who rambles on about "fake news", President Donald Trump sure is peddling one like there's no tomorrow. Pershing, as Trump told a SC rally, was a "rough guy, rough guy" fighting terrorism in the early 1900s.

"The statement I made on Saturday, the first statement, was a fine statement, but you don't make statements that direct unless you know the facts."

The president started off with a more conventional response to the attack on Twitter saying the United States condemned the attack and will do whatever is necessary to help, and urged the people of Spain to "be tough & strong".

"Well anytime you play into, with rhetoric of the kind we saw yesterday, you play into the ISIS message that we are in a war with Islam".

McCoy's documentary is the culmination of five years of research about the general, which included multiple trips to the Library of Congress and National Archives. PolitiFact tried to verify Trump's account of Pershing's actions with eight historians.

The dead Muslims were then buried with dead pigs. His predictable bigotry is exactly what his base wants to see.
