Google rebrands Tango as ARCore

Google rebrands Tango as ARCore”

Now that Apple is threatening to beat the search engine company to the punch with the imminent launch of the ARkit for iOS 11, Google is responding with its own launch of what's called the ARCore. The preview allows creators to experiment across three development environments: Android Studio, Unity, and Unreal.

Google's take on AR will first be available on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Google's own Pixel phone.

Motion tracking using the phone's camera for accurate object placement. ARCore is, instead, motion tracking, environmental understanding, and light estimation - all of which are available with a wide variety of Android device. Right now, just two Project Tango handsets have reached the market, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, and the (just released) Asus Zenfone AR.

Google says that it's working "with manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei, LG, ASUS and others to make this possible with a consistent bar for quality and high performance." for ARCore, although it's only announced the software at this stage, and not which devices it's likely to work on. Today, they've announced they're bringing AR to a much larger audience with the new ARCore SDK. Whether Google planned this before Apple's ARKit was revealed is irrelevant - because begun, this AR war has. Notably, the introduction of ARCore means Google is phasing out its Tango brand, TechCrunch reported. By aligning the pose of the virtual camera that renders the 3D content with the pose of the device's camera provided by ARCore, virtual content is rendered from the correct perspective and remains accurately placed as it is rendered on top of the image obtained from the device's camera.

Augmented Reality (AR) as an endeavour is set to explode on to the scene following initial successes, most notably the release of Pokémon Go a year ago that led people to go to some extreme places with their phones to catch a digital creature. However, the demos do give you a sense of the possibilities were a serious developer to put its resources behind an ARCore project.

It was pretty hard batting here in the second innings and I thought we did pretty well to get 240 in the end. Islam got Peter Handscomb (15), forcing him to edge to slip where Soumya Sarkar completed a tough catch.

When all was said and done, the benches cleared on three separate occasions and there was a total of eight ejections. With Miguel Cabrera and Austin Romine tussling on the ground, Castellanos went diving in to try to break things up.

To recall, Google already has an AR platform called Tango that it's been working on for the past 3 years.

Yes, ARCore will probably arrive to millions of Android devices, but only if certain conditions are met.

The platform will work by bringing AR capabilities to existing and future Android devices, which developers can begin testing straight away. Now, Google has another AR option that's cheaper to adopt: Google ARcore.

Along with ARCore, Android has invested in apps and services to further support developers in creating AR experiences, Burke wrote in the post.
