SC to hear plea challenging decision to deport Rohingyas todayā€¯

Singhvi said: "We beseech the government with all earnestness and humility to not use blanket approaches as we are given to understand that the affidavit submitted in the Supreme court suggests that the government of India is not bound by any global treaty".

In a bid to sort of lessen the pressure on the government in the unfold Rohingya crisis, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that the final decision will be taken by the Supreme Court.

The government has also stated that as per law, it is completely "illegal" for Rohingya immigrants to stay in India and has submitted that their continuance in India would have serious national security ramifications and has "serious security threats". The Centre said the Rohingya refugees were illegals and their continuous stay poses a grave security threat.

Rijiju then told the Lok Sabha that a large number of Rohingya refugees had migrated to India and the government would take steps to keep this influx in check.

India has also not been a signatory of the 1951 UN Convention or the 1967 Protocol - both relating to the Status of Refugees and included in the UNHCR statute.

Government has filed its affidavit with the Supreme Court on the Rohingya issue. Their petition says that the Centre's plan to deport them violated worldwide conventions.

It can range from $2 to $12 to initiate and then lift a credit freeze, depending on which state a person lives in. Some 143 million Social Security numbers - almost half the USA - were hacked, the company has admitted.

The community is recognised as illegal immigrants in India and the Rohingyas in India are registered as refugees with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

In the 15-page affidavit, the Centre also told the top court that it was best to let the Executive decide on the issue of deportation of refugees in the country.

Deportation would also be in contradiction with the principle of non-refoulement that prohibits deportation of refugees to a country where they face threat to their life and has been recognized under customary global law. The Central Ministry had then directed state governments that they must set up district-level task forces to identify and deport illegal immigrants. NHRC had strongly supported the Rohingya Muslims.

Just a few days ago, India had said that it planned to deport about 40,000 Rohingyas back to Myanmar.

Meanwhile, wild elephants have trampled to death two Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh, when they rampaged through a settlement where the refugees were taking shelter after fleeing a military offensive in neighbouring Myanmar.

Adjourning the hearing, the court asked the petitioner and others to file their rejoinder to the Centre's stand before the next date of hearing.
