Trump administration rolls back birth control coverage under ACA

Trump administration rolls back birth control coverage under ACA”

More than 55 million women have access to birth control without copayments because of the contraceptive coverage mandate, according to a study commissioned by the Obama administration.

When the Affordable Care Act went into effect in 2010, all employers were required to cover birth control with the exception of explicitly religious employers like churches and synagogues. The U.S. Supreme Court sent several cases representing Christian colleges, ministries and businesses dealing with religious exemptions to the ObamaCare contraception and abortion drugs and devices mandate back to lower courts to get the sides to reach a compromise. The website also claims that 65 percent of millennials believe that employers should include contraception at no cost. The new rule, he said, provides "relief to those who have been under the thumb of the federal government".

The new policies announced by the Trump administration would exempt employers from covering birth control if they have "moral convictions" or "seriously held religious beliefs" " that conflict with providing contraceptives.

"Application of the mandate to entities with sincerely held religious objections to it does not serve a compelling governmental interest", it says.

"The Trump administration continues to display a startling disregard for the reality of women's health and lives".

The administration lists among its reasons for rolling back the Obama-era requirement that it could promote "risky sexual behavior" among teens and young adults.

I have nothing more to say except: I share your anger. "Never, ever", President Donald Trump said at the time.

On his second day of third grade at Oakridge Elementary in South Sacramento , 8-year-old Dante Daniels didn't make it to school. Salone sustained an eye injury during the altercation and will "probably never see out of her left eye", Brown said.

Employers with religious or moral qualms will also be able to cover some birth control methods, and not others.

Penny Nance, of Concerned Women for America, added, "One of my fondest memories of working with President Trump so far is sitting in the Rose Garden as he stood strongly for religious liberty and asked the Little Sisters of the Poor to come on stage with him".

More to the point, the HHS contraception mandate was a political solution in vain search of an actual problem.

The exemption will be available to for-profit companies, whether they are owned by one family or thousands of shareholders. The requirement to provide FDA-approved contraception at no cost was long opposed by religious groups that heavily favored Trump, and has been wrapped up in legal challenges for more than five years. Little Sisters of the Poor argued that the ObamaCare mandate violated their free exercise rights under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

As a candidate, Trump promised that he would "make absolutely certain religious orders like the Little Sisters of the Poor are not bullied by the federal government due to their religious beliefs". And more than 20 percent of women of childbearing age had to pay for contraception out of pocket. It was swiftly condemned by women's health care advocates. "It prevents adolescent pregnancies". In May, he signed an executive order, which he said would protect religious liberty.

"President Trump is demonstrating his commitment to undoing the anti-faith policies of the previous administration and restoring true religious freedom", said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council. "The private medical decisions made by an employee are not the business of their employer", the group said.
