Trump embraces poll showing distrust of mediaā€¯

Yet despite Trump's constant rhetorical assault on the media, trust in some news organizations has risen during the president's time in office.

Attacks on the "fake news" media have become a staple of the Trump administration - and almost half of voters, including the vast majority of Republicans, believe the president when he claims that the media is making up stories about him. Seventeen percent don't trust either one.

Continuing with his unhidden distaste for the media, President Donald Trump says majority of the stories about his administration are fake and void of evidence.

A new report by Politico states that almost half of the American people believe Twitter fabricates stories about President Trump.

Republicans overwhelmingly believed that the media invented stories about Trump: 76% believed reporters invented stories, compared to just 11% who believed the media did not fabricate stories about Trump.

And yet the poll found that only 28% of voters believe the government should yank the broadcasting license of news organizations, with the majority - 51% - saying it should not be able to do so.

Recent comments on the subject include his Tuesday tweet, "So much Fake News being put in dying magazines and newspapers". The President tweeted last week, questioning what could be done to revoke the licenses of broadcast media outlets.

The poll was conducted via landline and cell phone from October 12-15 among 1,010 respondents with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent. The margin of error is +/- 2 percentage points.
