White House Watch: The Trump Administration Reacts to the Manafort Indictment”

Watch the White House press briefing with Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders LIVE from the Briefing Room.

Sanders criticized members of the press during the briefing, saying they seemed "obsessed" with the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. "It was a volunteer position", Sanders said of Papadopoulos' role in the campaign.

Sanders said the indictments and guilty plea have "nothing to do with the President's campaign or campaign activity".

She responded that he was a campaign volunteer who played a minimal role. And he was part of a list that was read out in the Washington Post.

Sanders would not comment on whether Mr. Trump regrets hiring certain members of the campaign, including former 2016 campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his former business associate Rick Gates, who were both indicted Monday morning on 12 separate counts, including conspiracy against the United States.

CNN has fact-checked the Trump administration in the past on its chyron.

Mr. Papadopoulos's offers were repeatedly rebuffed by the campaign, although one official told him to go to Russian Federation in order to gather dirt about Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

"There are no activities or official capacity in which the Trump campaign was engaged in any of these activities".

Also announced by Mueller was a guilty plea by George Papadopolous, a former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser, to making false statements to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents. According to the plea statement, following his July 27, 2017 arrest, Papadopoulos "met with the Government on numerous occasions to provide information and answer questions".

"We believe that it will be concluded soon", she said.

She also reiterated that President Trump has no plans to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Sanders said that the White House isn't expecting such differences of vision to delay the tax package, which Congress will begin considering in earnest this week.
