Visa-Free entry to South Korea for three Southeast countries

Visa-Free entry to South Korea for three Southeast countries”

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold their first bilateral summit in four months this week, South Korean officials said Friday, confirming the recent improvement in their ties long estranged by the deployment of a USA missile defense system in South Korea.

Moon congratulated Xi on the successful conclusion of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and his re-election as general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, saying he supports Xi's vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind. He is scheduled to continue his trip to Vietnam and the Philippines, and to attend two regional cooperation summits - of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations - to bolster diplomatic ties with Asean members in what he refers to as the "New South Policy".

The Korean government also assuaged Beijing's security concerns with the so-called "three nos", meaning no additional Thaad deployments, no joining of a broader U.S. missile defense (MD) system and no Korea-U.S. -Japan military alliance. "Let us both work hard to recover lost time".

Meanwhile, North Korea's main state newspaper, Rodon Sinmun, went into attacks mode with a commentary that "Trump has flown to South Korea as he seeks to strengthen military threats against us and has an intention to light the fuse for a nuclear war". This was stated in the office of the President of South Korea, reports Reuters.

The official added, "There was talk of improving relations in all areas, and there was already mutual understanding reached beforehand that this includes the companies and tourism [affected by China's retaliation], and the two leader's perception was in line with this".
