Dream Chaser Spacecraft To Conduct Missions To The ISS

Dream Chaser Spacecraft To Conduct Missions To The ISS”

Dream Chaser also can land in many locations, not only at NASA facilities.

The free flight lasted 60 seconds, reaching a maximum speed of 330 miles per hour (531 kph) and touching down at the targeted spot on the runway at a speed of 191 miles per hour (307 kph).

The spacecraft is still in its prototype phase so any data gathered from the test will help influence the final design of Dream Chaser.

SNC is planning to deliver cargo to the ISS in 2019 and is expected to fly "at least six cargo delivery missions to and from the space station by 2024".

A free-flight test was performed at NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center in California. The Dream Chaser is in the development, and once the spacecraft is complete, it will send cargo to the International Space Station.

Texans QB Deshaun Watson Believed to Have Torn ACL in Practice
Texans coach Bill O'Brien did not talk about any issues regarding Watson's knee during his Thursday news conference. The rookie QB played with a torn ACL in his freshman year at Clemson, but this injury appears to be beyond that.

"We are announcing today a successful atmospheric flight test of Dream Chaser, and it is in our minds a signal that our program has moved another step closer to operations and orbital flight", said Mark Sirangelo, corporate vice president of Sierra Nevada Corporation's Space Systems unit. During a tow test, a pick-up truck drags the spacecraft up to 60 miles per hour, then releases it and lets the vehicle stop itself.

The craft then made a completely autonomous descent and landing, rolling out about 4,200 feet on an Edwards Air Force Base runway in the high desert north of Los Angeles.

The Dream Chaser last flew in 2013, but a problem with its left landing gear meant it had a hard touchdown, which caused the plane to skid off the runway and sustain minor damage. Just like the free-flight test, Dream Chaser was suspended beneath a twin-rotor helicopter and flown through a number of maneuvers to gather information. The latter two have been supplying the outpost since 2012 and 2014 respectively.

The spacecraft will be launched on top of Atlas V rockets built by the United Launch Alliance and on its return to Earth it will land on the runway. Others include the SpaceX Dragon and Orbital ATK's Cygnus, which have both been flying missions for several years. He says that the company will carry out the shipment of cargo to the ISS, for the first time this will be done in 2020. "This advances our program and the Dream Chaser towards orbital flight, while meeting the final milestone for our NASA CCiCap [Commercial Crew integrated Capability] agreement and supporting milestone 5 of the CRS-2 contract".
