"Fuck Trump" Bumper Sticker Breaks Law, Says Republican Sheriff

On Wednesday morning, Sheriff Troy E. Nehls of Fort Bend County, Texas, posted a picture of the back of a truck asking members of the community to help him find the 'offender'.

"I have received numerous calls regarding the offensive display on this truck as it is often seen along FM 359", Nehls wrote on his sheriff Facebook page.

In a move that has sparked controversy about freedom of speech, authorities in Texas announced they are looking for the owner of a pickup truck who has been driving around with a "F-k Trump" decal on the rear window.

According to The Associated Press, Nehls said Wednesday at a news conference about his viral Facebook post that he's concerned the sign may lead to a confrontation.

But what caused outrage was Nehls statement that per the station's prosecutor "she would accept disorderly conduct charges regarding it".

"No Sheriff Nehls, you can't prosecute speech just because it contains words you don't like", ACLU said.

In the end, the only way the decal is coming down is if the weather washes it away, says Fonseca's husband, Mike.

"I don't think people are offended, and if they are, they just need to take a deep breath, change the channel, drive by the vehicle, and get on with their lives", Wice said.

"It's not to cause hate or animosity", Fonseca told the Chronicle.

"I understand I have 12 children of our own, at the same time, what we have on the back of our truck is nothing compared to what you see every day on the music videos, see on TV and video games". The large print decal reads, "F**K TRUMP AND F**K YOU FOR VOTING FOR HIM".

Nehl's post has gone viral, garnering almost 10,000 shares and more than 18,000 comments. He later said he supports freedom of speech rights. The owners, Karen and Mike Fonseca, however, were stunned to learn they could soon be charged with misdemeanors.

"The sticker has attracted attention many times before, Fonseca said".

Profanity is sometimes, but not always, protected under the First Amendment's right to free speech.

However, in the 1971 case of Cohen v. California, the high court overturned the conviction of a man who wore a jacket in a courtroom with the words "F*** the draft".

"Anybody traveling down the road that is behind that truck may have voted for Trump [and] that is where we might see a breach of the peace", the sheriff explained.
