Lebanon FM refuses to attend Arab summit on Iran

Lebanon FM refuses to attend Arab summit on Iran”

The resignation sparked a political crisis in Lebanon and put it on the front line of a regional power struggle between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Hariri has since Saturday been in Paris, where he met French President Emmanuel Macron, and has said he will return to Lebanon by Wednesday.

In a resolution published after the one-day summit wrapped up, the Arab League said that it "does not intend to declare war against Iran for the moment" but warned that "Saudi Arabia has the right to defend its territory".

Sunday´s League resolution issued "strong condemnation" of a November 4 missile attack by Huthi rebels in Yemen and targeting Riyadh, saying it was "blatant aggression against the kingdom and a threat to Arab national security".

"We are obliged today to take a serious and honest stand.to counter these belligerent policies", he added.

He alleged that Iran was aiming "to destabilise and fuel sectarian rift" on the region "and drive a wedge between ourselves and our people". Saudi authorities claimed of destroying the missile before reaching its destination while Houthis said that the missile hit the target successfully.

"The Iranian threats have gone beyond all limits and are pushing the region toward a unsafe precipice", Abul Gheit added.

However, the Egyptian diplomat said that Arab League was "not declaring war on Iran at this stage".

Speaking before Al-Jubeir at the 20-minute session broadcast live, Aboul-Gheit, the Arab league chief, was just as critical of Iran as the Saudi minister. It said Arab nations will provide details to the SC of Tehran's violations for arming Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Despite being Sunni, Hamas has always been seen as an ally of Iran.

The Saudi official accused Tehran of "meddling" in various Middle Eastern states, particularly focusing on the Houthi faction in Yemen, and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Majority Shias were denied to organise religious meetings commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein in the month of Muharram recently. Observers believe that he tried to belittle the gulf crisis triggered after Saudi led quartet cut ties with Qatar earlier in June.

The meeting was chaired by Djibouti's Foreign Minister and current chairman of the Arab Council of Foreign Ministers, Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo and was attended by 15 ministers and six ministerial representatives.

Hezballah is part of the coalition government in Lebanese government.

A leader in Hariri's Future Movement had earlier told Reuters Hariri would visit Egypt on Monday.

Aoun has accused Saudi Arabia of holding Hariri hostage.

While IS no longer controls any urban hub in Iraq, its surviving fighters have regrouped in remote desert areas along the border with Syria and mopping up operations remain to be completed. Both countries have recently announced about achieving major successes in their fight against terrorist groups with Wahabi ideology.

Recently BBC has carried an investigation on how USA and its allies shifted Daesh terrorists from Raqqa, Syria and the way they didn't allow Russian Federation to bomb the fleeing terrorists from Raqqa.

A source close to Hariri said that meeting aimed to "continue the series of Arab and worldwide consultations".

"Immediate and effective solutions are needed against recent Iranian intervention in the region", he said.

Gheit emphasized that the liberation of the region from violence and sectarianism is based on changing Iran's approach to the Arab world.
