Tree farmers received an unprecedented flurry of phone calls after a "Good Morning America" segment about tough times for the Christmas tree industry.

Since 90% of trees are sold by the second weekend in December, the stock gets a heavy price slashing mid-way through December, and on Christmas eve, they are the cheapest at just $30 on average, when everything must go.

"It affects us a little bit because we are a very small farm".

Christmas tree prices have spiked this year, in part because of a tree shortage that has its roots in the Great Recession.
