Mueller Removed Top FBI Agent Over Possible Anti-Trump Texts”

The New York Times and Washington Post both reported Saturday FBI special agent Peter Strzok - who played key roles in the FBI's initial Russian Federation investigation, special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation and the Clinton email investigation - was removed from Mueller's investigation after it was discovered he exchanged anti-Trump text messages with FBI lawyer Lisa Page, whom he was having an extramarital affair with.

Peter Strzok, as deputy head of counter-intelligence at the FBI, was a key player in the investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server to do government work as Secretary of State, as well as the probe into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation in the 2016 election. In a busy morning of notes to his 44 million followers, Mr. Trump earlier said that "I never asked" former FBI Director James Comey "to stop investigating Flynn". The people briefed on the case said the transfer followed the discovery of text messages in which Mr. Strzok and a colleague reacted to news events, like presidential debates, in ways that could appear critical of Mr. Trump.

"Immediately upon learning of the allegations, the Special Counsel's Office removed Peter Strzok from the investigation", Special Counsel's Office spokesperson Peter Carr told BuzzFeed News.

The allegations came to light after the Justice Department's inspector general started examining Strzok's messages.

The agent, Peter Strzok, is considered one of the most experienced and trusted FBI counterintelligence investigators.

The Justice Department 's Office of the Inspector General said in a statement Saturday that it has been "reviewing allegations involving communications between certain individuals, and will report its findings regarding those allegations promptly upon completion of the review of them".

He cited "a months-long pattern by the DOJ and Federal Bureau of Investigation of stonewalling and obstructing this Committee's oversight work", including also withholding subpoenaed information about their use of an opposition research dossier that targeted Mr. Trump in the 2016 election. Mueller has been looking into Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election since May.

The Justice Department's Office of the Inspector General has been reviewing both the FBI's and Justice handling of the Clinton probe, which cleared the Mrs. Clinton of criminal wrongdoing. Some conservatives encouraged Mr. Trump to fire Mr. Mueller, saying the investigation was tainted.
