IOS Software Update Prevents Older iPhones from Slowing Down

IOS Software Update Prevents Older iPhones from Slowing Down”

Yesterday the sixth beta of iOS 11.2.5 was released to developers, the update was an unexpected one as we were expecting the fifth beta of the OS to be the last one.

Apple's Tim Cook apart from confirming in an interview with ABC News that the company intends to move foreign money back to the U.S., he finally addressed the iPhone "batterygate" scandal stating that a new system update will come out in February, that will help users to stop their iPhones from slowing down. This is because performance spikes can require more power than an old battery is capable of providing, which can result in a phone shutting down completely.

Speaking with ABC News, Cook apologized again for the whole slowdown debacle but he also stressed that Apple will continue to take the actions it did (reducing performance of aging iPhones) in case the OS deems it necessary, so as to help users prolong their battery usage and prevent any sudden shutdowns or reboots. CEO Tim Cook has now addressed the subject in an interview with ABC News, denying that the feature was completely hidden but admitting it could have done more to inform users about what was going on. It wasn't necessarily the fact that Apple implemented the system, rather it was because iPhone users didn't know about it and weren't given a choice whether if they wanted to participate in the plan or not. This tool has been reported to have support for iPhone 5S, iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad Pro, and iPod Touch 6. Although he wouldn't suggest users do so, he said, "If you don't want it, you can turn it off".

Cook said the phone-slowing software, released past year, was meant to make sure that iPhone users did not get cut off in the middle of an important call or text message because of an old battery. But apart from being a throttle toggle, the feature also lets the user check the battery health of his iPhone. He later added, "Maybe we should have been clearer, as well". Within days, Apple faced lawsuits over the phone slowing. Apple has since apologised and announced it would be dropping the price of replacement iPhone batteries from US$79 (NZ$108) to US$29 throughout 2018.
