Janelle Monáe Brings a 'Time's Up' Message to the Grammy Awards

Time's up for discrimination.

Kesha, 30, who has been battling her former record producer Dr. Luke for years in US courts over allegations of emotional and sexual abuse, performed her defiant single "Praying" alongside Cyndi Lauper, Andra Day, Camila Cabello, Bebe Rexha and Julia Michaels and an all-female choir.

Monae, 32, added that sexual misconduct and harassment is "not just going on in Hollywood". The singer's drawn-out legal battle with the producer Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald (whom she has accused of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse) has practically made her the music industry's poster woman for the movement.

The Grammy Awards have spent all night trying to give lip service to the #MeToo movement, drumming up anticipation for Kesha's performance of "Praying", calling it "a powerful song.that speaks to our times". Dr. Luke runs Kemosabe Records, a subsidiary of Sony's music label, and has Kesha signed on to a contract. He has denied the allegations and countersued.
