USA Gymnastics officials resign in midst of sex abuse scandal”

Attorney General Bill Schuette is promising a full and complete investigation "from the president's office down" of Michigan State University's handling of the Larry Nassar sex abuse case.

"Whatever protocol or policy was in place, whatever frontline staff might normally be involved in response or investigation, it all got kind of swept away and it was handled more by administration [and] athletic department officials", said a former university sexual assault counselor, Lauren Allswede, who left Michigan State in 2015 over frustration that the school didn't handle such cases properly. Michigan State Police are assisting, and Assistant Attorney General Christina Grossi was named project manager.

Schuette said his investigators will speak with every victim in the case.

Lemke, who will graduate from MSU this December, said she's glad that officials are accepting responsibility for how the Nassar scandal was mishandled, but she also hopes that the university takes steps to ensure sexual abuse never happens again.

Since his sentencing, MSUs president Lou Anna Simon resigned, MSU Athletic Director Mark Hollis retired, and the entire USA Gymnastics board resigned after being given an ultimatum by the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Nassar, the former Michigan State and Team USA gymnastics doctor, was sentenced to 175 years in prison after more than 150 women - including dozens of former Michigan State athletes - gave victim impact statements at the trial.

He also says Michigan State attorneys should stop fighting lawsuits filed by the victims and should instead move to settle them. "They don't appear to see the women as anything more than a number, or anything other than a threat to their reputation", she wrote. He said his goals are to find out who at MSU was aware of Nassar's sexual misconduct, what action they took and why the predatory conduct wasn't stopped.

When the Star published Denhollander's, Strampel and several others at Michigan State exchanged emails with one other. Let me also add this: "I don't need advice from the board of trustees at MSU about how to conduct an investigation", Schuette said.

This Mummified Woman Now Has A Name - And A Famous Relative
It only became clear previous year , based on newly discovered archives, that the mummy had been uncovered once before, in 1843. The couple's daughter, Yvonne, married Osman Wilfred Johnson Kemal and their son, Stanley Johnson, is Boris Johnson's father.

Last week, 156 women and girls who are survivors of Nassar's abuse, shared emotional stories during his sentencing hearing in Ingham County. That's on top of his previous sentence of 60 years for admitting to possessing child pornography. "We failed you", Trustee Brian Mosallam said, trying to hold back tears. He served on the board of Crime Victim Services.

"I look forward to helping in any way I can those affected: Like I said, supporters - most importantly, the victims".

The National Collegiate Athletic Association is also investigating Michigan State, and inquiries are planned in Congress and the state Legislature.

The USA Gymnastics program should be totally and temporarily suspended, shut down until its house is clean.

But Schuette changed course Saturday, saying it was time to reveal what his office was doing - while for the first time describing his efforts to investigate the school.

DeVos confirmed the investigation Friday.

The university is now facing lawsuits from more than 130 victims.
