PM to Putin: We will stop Iranian entrenchment in Lebanon, Syria”

They will discuss concerns with Iran's growing entrenchment in Syria, following up on Prime Minister Netanyahu's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday, Channel 10 reports.

He is likely to press Putin on recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel as well as urge the Russian president to curb Iran's influence in Syria.

He said the issues on the agenda include tightening the security coordination between the Israeli military and the Russian army in Syria, and "a series of other issues which are important, and even very important, for Israel's security", he added without elaborating.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Monday Israel was using "all the options" to prevent the production of missiles in Lebanon, including "political leverage".

The visit will shortly follow a meeting between Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday. Netanyahu told reporters following the meeting.

Netanyahu said that with the Mideast at a crossroads, there is an opportunity to stabilize Syria and Lebanon, but that there is one actor - Iran - which is trying to do the opposite.

At the beginning of the meeting underway in the Jewish Museum and Center of Tolerance Putin thanked Netanyahu for visiting Moscow.

The visit has been confirmed by the Prime Minister's Office.

One of the most famous acts of resistance by Jews to the Nazis during the Holocaust, the Sobibor Uprising got off the ground after the arrival to the Sobibor death camp in northeastern Poland of several Red Army veterans with combat experience. "That is our mission today as well".

"I think that main lesson learned from the rise of the Nazis, and afterwards the defeat of the Nazis, is the need to powerfully stand up to murderous ideology in time", Netanyahu said at the museum. Netanyahu and Putin will be participating at the Centre to mark the memory of Holocaust victims and Leningrad's liberation anniversary.
