The statement called on the United Nations secretary-general to assign his special envoy to Syria to assist the constitutional committee work in Geneva.

The Sochi Congress ended on Tuesday with a framework agreement to form a commission tasked with "drafting a plan for constitutional reform".

According to the Russian MP, "at last, the constitutional process has started".

"The Geneva talks will receive a boost after the Sochi congress and will be promoted".

Seen as a new platform for direct dialogue with the aim to address the Syrian crisis, the Syrian National Dialogue Congress was aimed at facilitating negotiations between all segments of the Syrian society, including its political and civil powers as well as ethnic, religious and social groups.

The main opposition bloc - the Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC) - accused Assad and Russia, Syria's principal ally, of continuing to use military might and showing no interest in entering into honest negotiations.
