South Korean president to meet Kim Jong Un's sister

South Korean president to meet Kim Jong Un's sister”

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who is set to attend the Olympics' opening ceremony with the father of Otto Warmbier, the American student who died shortly after a lengthy captivity in North Korea, said he will soon unveil tougher sanctions against North Korea. Radio Free Asia reported during the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics that although the country's delegation was given phones, North Korea's Olympic committee had refused to distribute them to athletes.

Fireworks went off as leader Kim Jong-un took his place on the rostrum to watch the display, along with his wife Ri Sol Ju and ceremonial head of state Kim Yong Nam - who will head Pyongyang's delegation to the Olympics on Friday.

Pence's personal guest at the games will be Fred Warmbier, the father of Otto Warmbier, an American who died past year days after his release from captivity in North Korea.

North and South Korea will march under a common flag during the official opening ceremony tomorrow (February 9) to represent the recent thaw in diplomatic relations between the two countries, and they have agreed to field a joint women's ice hockey team. While North Korea's participation has raised hopes of peace talks, the regime has refused any discussions about getting rid of its nuclear arsenal. However, that hasn't deterred Seoul's citizens from taking many precautions against a catastrophic attack by North Korea, whether nuclear or otherwise. Marc Knapper, the interim US ambassador to South Korea, indicated to USA media that the exercises will be held in April. Pence called the alliance "unshakeable".

Vice President Mike Pence is reassuring Japan of its support against the North Korean nuclear threat as he meets with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Pence also has promised the US will soon unveil "the toughest and most aggressive round of economic sanctions on North Korea ever".

She has also been targeted by United States sanctions, alongside other North Korean officials, for her alleged role in committing "severe human rights abuses".

Kim Jong Un tells his forces to keep a high level of combat readiness against the U.S., flanked by his wife in a rare appearance.

"That's promoting Kim Jong Un and North Korea's ideology". "It sends the right message about historic opportunities, shows willingness to send someone who's actually got some juice with KJU".

South Korea has had to ask the United Nations for an exemption to allow Choe Hwi, a United Nations sanctioned North Korean official, to attend.

Shea Cotton, an expert on the North's weapons program, says the parade is, "probably North Korea's way of trying to show that it is relevant, that it can control the narrative in the region". The Hwasong-12 intermediate range missile was also displayed.

Kim is the youngest daughter of the late North Korean leader Kim Jong Il.

Speaking at the occasion, Kim said the military parade showcased "the status of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), which has developed into a world-class military power". "Our delegation's visit to South Korea is only to take part in the Olympics and hail its successful holding".
