Yu Darvish, Cubs reach $126 million, 6-year deal

Yu Darvish, Cubs reach $126 million, 6-year deal”

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic has reported that starting pitcher Yu Darvish has signed a six-year, $126 million deal with the Chicago Cubs. The deal could be worth up to $150 million with incentives, and also reportedly includes opt-out and no-trade clauses.

The 31-year-old split time between the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers last season, going 10-12 with a 3.86 ERA last season with 209 strikeouts in 186.2 innings. Two years removed from a title, the Cubs obviously fit into that category and addressed a significant need by adding Darvish to their rotation.

With Darvish in the mix, the Cubs rotation now consists of Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks, Jose Quintana and Tyler Chatwood.

He pitched in the NLDS, NLCS, and twice in the World Series. This is likely a correctable issue moving forward and the Cubs probably agree given they handed Darvish this deal.

Pentagon reveals new nuclear weapons strategy, reversing Obama-era policy
The proposals stem from concerns that Russian Federation may see current United States nuclear weapons as too big to be used. In 2016, the Pentagon had planned to spend about $100 billion from 2017 to 2022 to "sustain and modernize nuclear forces".

But it could certainly be true that the only teams in the market for expensive free-agent talent are those intending to compete for World Series championships.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Darvish has a 2.42 ERA in eight career starts against the NL Central, including the postseason. The top free agent pitcher on the market finally signing could get those wheels turning.

After almost an entire winter of speculation and reports connected Darvish with the Twins and several other clubs, the best available free agent starter chose to take his talents to the North side of Chicago. Both the Dodgers and Yankees may have moved on Darvish sooner had those clubs not been concerned with exceeding the luxury tax threshold for this season. But with spring training approaching fast, there is at least some hope that the Darvish signing will be the spark this market needed and that labor tensions will ease, if only slightly.

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yu Darvish, of Japan has reportedly agreed to a six-year deal with the Chicago Cubs. He made 17 starts in 2016 and 31 starts in 2017, when he was an All-Star. The former two showed only tepid interest due to their commitment to staying under the fake salary cap, and the latter two are likely going to focus on the remaining free agent starters - Arrieta, Lance Lynn, and Alex Cobb.
