#Olympics: Randall and Diggins deliver long-awaited U.S. gold”

In the final team event of the Olympics, the US women on Wednesday grabbed a gold medal.

Jessie Diggins, 27, and Kikkan Randall, 35, won gold in this event at the world championships in 2013, the first Americans to do so. Norway picked up the bronze medal.

Randall and Diggins snared gold by a nose, with Diggins sprinting to the finish 0.19 seconds ahead of the Swedish team of Charlotte Kalla and Stina Nilsson, with whom they had been dueling for the entire race.

Before today, the United States had never won a women's medal in cross country skiing, and had never won a gold medal.

Diggins brought home the gold with a brilliant final sprint to the finish line.

The Americans posted the fastest time in the semifinals to start on the front row in the final.
