Uber Just Launched a New Option With Its Cheapest Fares Yet”

The new rideshare option is a deviation from Uber POOL, which lets riders save a few bucks by allowing drivers to pick up other riders going in the same general direction. After the match, riders will be directed to walk a few extra blocks to their pickup location, where (if Uber's algorithm worked the way its supposed to) they'll hopefully meet one or two additional riders who've also been matched with the same driver. Once the riders are picked up, the app will then drop off the riders in locations that are also within walking distance of the original rider's destination.

According to Uber director of product Ethan Stock, the trials revealed Express Pool passengers were more likely than Uber Pool users to be ready when their ride arrives.

Uber's intent with POOL is to help lower the cost of entry to its product to make it the massive base of the ride hailing pyramid that can reach the most people thanks to affordability near on par with public transit. For D.C., L.A., Miami, Philadelphia, San Diego and Denver (with more cities coming in the next few weeks), riders now have the cheaper option to Express Pool in addition to just a regular Uber Pool, with just a couple of strings attached.

For those who are hearing about Uber Express Pool for the first time, the core idea is the same which is that it will try to connect multiple passengers and a driver who are traveling along the same route.

Uber says that the Express POOL service is significantly cheaper than its other services - up to 50 percent cheaper than a regular Uber POOL ride and 75 percent cheaper than an Uber X ride.

Quick Take: China Calls for US Restraint in Steel Probe
Steel (X) rose 3.6%, AK Steel (AKS) 4.4%, Steel Dynamics (STLD) 2.1%, and Nucor (NUE) 1% on the stock market today . They're charging us massive tariffs for us to sell our products into those countries.

We're excited that with Express POOL's affordability and consistency, riders can use it every day.

While Uber's chief executive, Dara Khosrowshahi, recently expressed interest in the company someday running a city's buss ervice, Stock was quick to point out the differences between Express Pool and buses.

Uber has been testing the new service in San Francisco and Boston since late 2017. Express Pool is meant to make a profit. Rides are dependent on what riders are requesting in specific areas. The company plans to bring it to more US cities in the coming weeks and months.

Even as the company has seen unprecedented growth by expanding to dozens of countries, Uber has been hurt by allegations of executive misconduct, a toxic work atmosphere, and potentially unethical competitive practices.
