Ex-Google Recruiter Sues Company For Anti-White, Anti-Asian Hiring Bias”

A former YouTube employee is suing the video site's parent company, Google, alleging he was wrongfully terminated from his position after complaining of discriminatory hiring practices against white and Asian men.

Arne Wilberg, who worked at Google and its YouTube unit for about nine years both as a contractor and an employee, claims he was terminated in retaliation for complaining to human resources about the company's hiring practices.

Google says they will fight the lawsuit and their hiring processes favour the merit of the candidates over their identities. In the same statement, the spokesperson told the Journal, "At the same time, we unapologetically try to find a diverse pool of qualified candidates for open roles, as this helps us hire the best people, improve our culture, and build better products".

The lawsuit follows a similar action by James Damore, a former Google engineer who rose to prominence after sending an internal memo criticizing Google's diversity practices and defending the gender gap.

Other Florida high school students also walked out in solidarity with the Parkland students on Tuesday to call for gun reforms. "We can do more to protect our children. We must do more to protect our children", he added .

The National Labor Relations Board's general counsel would later rule that Google had not violated the law when it fired him, causing Damore to withdraw the complaint he filed with the agency.

Wilberg filed with his lawsuit copies of two purported emails from a woman identified as the YouTube staffing team manager, in which she is alleged to have directed hiring team members to only consider and accept candidates from "under-represented groups".

The lawsuit included a screenshot of a "weekly recap" document, outlining the company's recent hires, their ethnic background, and where the team fell short of meeting its diversity goals. It's also alleged that management deleted emails and other digital records of diversity requirements past year. He alleges that YouTube attempted to hide their blatant hiring bias and that he was told in a meeting in January 2016 that the company had to "clean up" its diversity hiring practices. Google is certainly facing the heat to diversify its workforce and reform its mostly white-and-Asian male workforce to constitute more women and people of color.

Google, which has since rejected the charge, defended its efforts in creating a diverse workforce.
