Lyft expands tools that help patients get to and from appointments”

Access to care isn't the only way Lyft has partnered with healthcare organizations to make its ride-share service more inclusive.

"This could be good for congestion if it causes vehicle occupancy rates to go up, but on the other hand, the Uber Pool rides and I guess these Express rides are really, really cheap, just a couple of dollars, so they're nearly certainly going to be pulling people away from public transport options", Wilson said.

The dashboard allows healthcare professionals to order rides for patients going to and from the care they need.

Lyft is doubling down on helping patients get rides to the doctor in hopes of closing the health care transportation gap in half by 2020. In April 2017, Lyft announced product improvements and a partnership with the National Association of the Deaf to enhance the driving experience for deaf or hard-of-hearing drivers, and in December, Lyft partnered with Aira to enable visually impaired riders to request rides more efficiently. To help solve the problem, the ride-share giant, Uber, has made a decision to take advantage of what it sees as an opportunity and establish Uber Health. "Patients without a smartphone can still use Uber Health through text messaging or opt to receive a call with trip details to their mobile phone or landline instead". If yes, the system will communicate with Lyft to schedule a ride for the patient.

This ends up costing the health care system about $150 billion each year. "If someone misses an appointment, it's this whole trigger that could mean readmission to the hospital after surgery or it could mean more emergency room visits".

"Through a seamless integration of Lyft's API and Allscripts' EHR system, we're empowering clinicians to eliminate transportation barriers for millions of people across the country by making it easier to get to and from medical appointments with Lyft", said Lyft Business Vice President Gyre Renwick. "When patients' transportation needs are noted in Allscripts' EHR system, an automated workflow will schedule Lyft transportation for that patient".

Every year, there are 3.6 million Americans who miss their doctors' appointments, mostly because they don't have access to reliable transportation.

When a patient is in transit, the care team can use the tracking board to monitor the patient's status with real-time notifications of pickups and estimated time of arrival.
