The special feature of this year's parade is Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena's participation, who was the guest of honour of the event. Contingents from the armed forces of Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Jordan also participated in the parade.

Contingents of Pakistan Army, Navy, Pakistan Air Force, Special Services Groups, Frontier Corps, Rangers, Islamabad police, Nursing officers, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, marched past the dais presenting salute to the chief guest and the guest of honor. Afterwards, fighter jets of the PAF conducted fly-pasts with breath-taking maneuvres, wowing the audience.

Ambassador also thanked the friends of Pakistan in particular the UAE who always stood by it in hard times and contributed to its development. The parade was concluded by commandos from the tri-services conducting a paradrop after which a national song was performed.

The flag was hoisted with National Anthem of Pakistan and the messages of President and Prime Minister of Pakistan on the occasion were readout by the Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Qatar Shahzad Ahmad.

Earlier, the day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salute in the provincial capitals.

Calling upon for an immediate and peaceful resolution of the struggle of Kashmiri people, the President said, "The only solution to the dispute of Kashmir is to provide the right of self-determination to Kashmiris, and Pakistan will continue to play its role in this regard". "But our commitment towards peace should not be mistaken as our weakness", he said, further accusing India of repeatedly breaching the ceasefire violation at the Line of Control.

Amid the row over the harassment of each other's officials in respective missions, he said peace was in the mutual interest of both countries and it could only be achieved through diplomacy and dialogue.

Presdient Hussain paid tribute to the martyrs of the country and advised the officers to fulfill their duties with courage and honesty.
