Trump says he was unaware of Stormy Daniels payment

Trump says he was unaware of Stormy Daniels payment”

"You'll have to ask Michael Cohen", Trump said.

President Trump has said he did not know about a $130,000 (£92,000) payment made by his lawyer to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election - his first public comment on the issue.

If Cohen made that payment from his own funds and without Trump's knowledge, it could be considered an illegal contribution to the Trump campaign.

"You'll have to ask Michael Cohen. You'll have to ask Michael".

Nearly immediately after the president's statements were reported, Daniels' attorney challenged him to make them under oath.

Avenatti, who has relentlessly pushed his client's case against Trump on national television, is now requesting documents and records from the Treasury Department pertaining to the "suspicious activity report" filed on the 2016 payment. Daniels also signed a non-disclosure agreement.

Daniels says she had a sexual encounter with the president in 2006 and was paid as part of a non-disclosure agreement she is seeking to invalidate.

"As history teaches us", he added, "it is one thing to deceive the press and quite another to do so under oath". However, she has since admitted to signing an NDA in exchange for $130,000 amid threats from the now-President's camp and fears for her family's safety.

On Monday, Trump's lawyers sought to get that lawsuit out of federal court and into private arbitration.

Fortunately, the reporter in the above clip never asked Trump about Stormy's claim that she spanked the real estate mogul with a copy of Forbes.
