Lawsuit Charges Three Michigan State Basketball Players with Rape”

More trouble may be headed Michigan State's way, as a federal lawsuit has been filed against the university and three former men's basketball players by a female student accusing the athletes of sexually assaulting her at an off-campus apartment in 2015.

According to Jane Doe's lawsuit, the aspiring sports journalist met three Michigan State basketball players at an East Lansing bar in April 2015, shortly after the team was eliminated from the NCAA tournament. The sexual assault of the 18-year-old student is said to have happened a week after the Final Four loss to Duke. The woman, who at the time was a sports journalism major, also said that one of the players "lied" to her and said her roommate was also going to be at the party.

According to the lawsuit, the university never told the woman that she had a right to a "no-contact" order that would have prevented the players from entering the campus housing where she lived.

Three ex-players pleaded guilty this past week to lesser charges stemming from a 2017 sexual assault of a woman in an apartment bathroom, according to the Washington Post. He told her that her roommate was already heading to the party, according to the lawsuit. "She was afraid and seeing what was going on in the community - and that she would probably have more support now".

She accepted a auto ride to the party from two of the players, including the player who had given her the drink, according to the lawsuit. Speaking with ESPN on condition that she not be identified, she said she anxious they would be charged with underage drinking, and counseling staff did nothing to ease those concerns. "She tried to send a phone text, but she could not control her thumbs to formulate a text", the lawsuit says.

The staffers then advised the woman they had seen many cases with "guys with big names", and that the best thing for her to do is "just get yourself better" - implying it was not in the woman's best interest to report the incident to authorities, according to the complaint.

She was able to leave the bedroom when JD2 offered to show her some of his memorabilia in his room after she asked for a glass of water.

In Trump's case, Mueller's reported concession that Trump isn't a target of the investigation may mean even less than in a more typical probe.

The accused players' names were not made public in the lawsuit. John Doe 1 then told her "you are mine for the night" and led to a bedroom. The woman was crying and could not speak, her lawsuit claims, and she did not consent to the activity. When she woke up on the couch a few hours later, she called a taxi and went back to her dorm room. She then said she felt extremely hungry and thirsty.

According to the lawsuit, the woman didn't know what to do, so she talked to another friend, who took her to the Michigan State University Counseling Center on April 20, 2015. After arriving, she said there was no party with "few people present" and realized her roommate was not there.

The woman is still a student at MSU.

She was told that the three basketball players she referred to were well known athletes and if she pursued a lawsuit against them that she would be swimming with very big fish.

The freshman was "so discouraged by the representations made by the (counseling staff) she became frightened to the point that she decided she could not report the rape (s) to law enforcement". She said she would see her attackers at the Brody Dining Hall, causing panic and flashbacks, according to the lawsuit. She eventually withdrew from the school before re-enrolling in January, 2016.

The lawsuit is seeking a jury trial and also claims the university failed to conduct a thorough investigation of the alleged incident.

Truszkowski is also the attorney for the alleged victim of sexual assault in the Michigan State football sexual assault case, involving former players Josh King, Donnie Corley Jr., and Demetric Vance.
